Palpitation explores pulsing figures of various textures that intensify as the piece progresses. The title manifests itself both in the sense of simply an excited or fluttering figure and also as an irregular, pathological heart beat. As the piece develops, it becomes apparent that there is both an invigorating and a threatening implication in the piece's progress. Palpitation is scored for a miniature orchestra that specializes in bright, vibrant timbres.
