Emphatic Whisper explores the gray area between noise and vocal production in an attempt to capture the nuances demonstrated by human speech. The piece utilizes varied combinations of sustaining and percussive sounds to mimic the pairing of consonants and vowels in forming words. Consonant and vowel sounds are carefully paired to give the appearance of a continuous voice. Groups acting together as a single individual give way to soloists who continue in the role of instrument as voice.
